So you're wondering why hot rollers are back and are here for the long haul? In our post 7 Reasons to Try Hot Rollers, you’ll find out why professionals and die-hard hot roller fans are gaga about the versatile tool.

With gloomy days gone and the arrival of spring, let your hair down and enjoy these romantic curls! Here's how to get the look:

  • Jetset Hot Roller – for this look we used The Spiral set for more defined face framing curls.

  • Heat protection spray

  • Hair spray

Step 1:

Apply heat protection spray all over your hair and comb through. Also, when possible start with dry day-old hair. Why? Hair that’s too oily or freshly washed won’t hold curls as well.

Step 2:

Decide where you want your hair partitioned for your final look. Next, take a strand so it’s no wider than the width of the roller.

Step 3:

Set the rollers in your hair. For this look, all rollers will be placed horizontally.

Place the heated roller at the end of your hair, wrap your hair around the roller and finish rolling towards your scalp. Secure the roller with a wire clip, butterfly clip or, for a stronger hold use both by placing the wire clip first, then place the butterfly clip on top.

Does your hair have a lot of layers? Try placing the roller 2-3” from the ends of your strand, wrap the end around the roller first then roll the rest towards your scalp. This method will help capture any loose strands.

Step 4:

When you’ve finished placing all the rollers, mist a touch of hair spray over your entire head (optional).

Step 5:

Once all the rollers are in your hair, it’s time to let it set and cool. The amount of time for the roller to be set depends on the amount of hair you have and its texture. As a rule of thumb, we recommend 15-20 minutes for longer lasting curls.

When the color dots turn from white back to a solid red, the rollers are completely cool and ready to be taken out.

P.S: If you’re the master of multi-tasking, when your hair is setting it’s a great time to do your make-up, send emails or spend time with your kids

Step 6:

To take out the rollers, hold one end of the roller and gently unwind. If you decided to take the rollers out before the rollers are completely cool, it’s best to leave your hair untouched for about 5 minutes so the curl can set before styling for longer lasting curls.

Step 7:

Working from the scalp outwards, use your hands or fingers to style your hair.

Step 8:

Once you’ve got the look you adore, finish with a lightweight hair spray and you’re ready to take on the world!

Love is in the air.

Valentine’s Day is a centuries-old holiday from both Christian and ancient Roman roots, but even today the origin of its patron saint – St. Valentine is still shrouded in mystery. One story says that it is named after St. Valentine a priest who performed marriages in secret when it was banned in ancient Rome. At the time Emperor Claudius II decided to outlaw marriage for men because he believed single men made better soldiers. Sadly when Claudius discovered Valentine’s actions he was ordered to be put to death.

No matter how Valentine’s Day originated it is now one of the most celebrated events worldwide. Here are some interesting facts about Valentine’s Day!

Most Romantic Cities in the U.S.

According to Brandwatch, Miami, Chicago, Houston, Los Angeles, and New York City are the most romantic cities in the U.S., with the highest number of tweets related to date plans and feelings of affection.

Favorite Gifts

The most favorite gifts in order of popularity are sweets, cards, flowers, travel/entertainment and jewelry. If you’re considering something for your partner try one of these, or get adventurous and do something completely unexpected!

Red Roses Please

In the U.S., about 110 million roses are sold and delivered during the three day period for Valentine’s Day. As expected, most of them are red roses.

Boxes of Chocolate

The first box of chocolates came from Richard Cadbury from the Cadbury chocolate family, when in 1868 he sent chocolates in a heart shaped box. What could be more appropriate to send to your sweet heart!

Japan’s Version of Valentine’s Day

While most countries celebrate Valentine’s Day with both partners preparing something for their significant other, in Japan the woman gives a gift to the man. On February 14th, it’s customary for women to prepare (often handmade) chocolates for their beloved. The man is expected to return his thanks and feeling of mutual affection on March 14th, a month later. If nothing is returned after the long wait…let’s hope he’s just a busy man.

With Valentine’s Day around the corner, we hope everyone is happily preparing for the fun night with friends or beloved ones.

With the festive holiday season here, every woman (including us 3 sisters at BEAUTY TRIBE!) want the glam look that turns heads and celebrates the year gone by. We usually have the sparkly dress, pretty heels and smoky eye make-up down to a T, when preparing for an event or social gathering. But what’s missing? Holiday hair is a must for the ultimate look!

Age of Adaline – Racing Through Decades of Fashion.

What better way, than to be inspired by Blake Lively as she stars as Adaline Bowman in Age of Adaline. As Adaline endures decades while staying the age of twenty-nine, we are literally glued to the screen catching every nostalgic yet timeless fashion look that brings us into the present day.

From precise vintage finger waved hair delicately framing Adaline’s face in the 1930’s, to soft, youthful and romantic carefree curls in the 1950’s, we are in absolute awe.  In modern day, her loose waves gently cascade down to her shoulders and her side swept hair creates an elegant and sophisticated look.

No matter what time frame you choose, let Age of Adaline inspire your next holiday look.

Professional blow outs – it’s tempting to walk into a salon and splurge anywhere between $20-$50 for 30mins of pampering and great hair results. Sure, I’d do that every day if I could too. But the reality is that it takes 1 hour or more roundtrip to get to the hair salon plus the blowout, and frankly speaking I wouldn’t have the budget to do it on a daily basis.

I say, it’s better to take control of your own blow out experience. Among the many ways to achieve this, is choosing the right brush. You can definitely invest in a great hair dryer that makes a difference, but without the perfect brush a blowout at home can become a styling nightmare. Getting the right brush is probably one of the most cost effective choices you can make too.

Round brushes are the go-to for blow outs.

Try purchasing a brush that has a conductive ceramic or tourmaline barreled surface. These brushes help capture heat from the hair dryer, smooths hair and effectively retains style. Double thumbs up if you use a vented barrel. The vented barrel maximizes airflow which gives you a faster drying experience.

What barrel diameter, did you ask? If you want to focus on more volume and curls try a brush with a smaller diameter. If a smooth style is your thing, opt for a larger barreled brush.

I like Olivia Garden's - HeatPro Thermal Round Brush. It’s ultra light, resists high temperatures, dries hair faster and adds shine. Pssst. It even includes a hidden tail comb for sectioning hair.

We are going loco for coco-nut oil! In places like Thailand, India, Malaysia, Philippines and the Caribbean, women have been using coconut oil for hundreds of years. From cooking to removing make-up, it's an all-natural multipurpose miracle worker - especially for hair.

Why is it so amazing? Coconut oil contains many naturally occurring vitamins and minerals, as well as lauric acid. Surprisingly, coconut oil's fatty acid is composed of 50% lauric acid. Because of its low molecular weight, coconut oil binds and deeply penetrates the hair shaft. In addition to minimizing protein loss, coconut oil does not easily evaporate and keeps moisture locked in resulting in silky smooth hair. So here in a nut shell (pun intended), is the essence to creating stronger hair, less prone to damage!

Below is a Do-It-Yourself recipe for a coconut oil hair treatment to be used in combination with our Hydrolizer Spa Cap. Give it a try!

Silky Smooth - Coconut Oil Hair Mask

  • Raw Organic Cold Pressed Virgin Coconut Oil

Note: Amount of coconut oil will depend on hair length.

  • Nesting Bowls x 2

  • Hydrolizer Cordless Spa Cap x 1

  • Shampoo

  • Towel x 1

  1. Wash hair with shampoo and towel dry.

  2. Place coconut oil in the smaller of the 2 bowls.

  3. Fill larger bowl with a little bit of hot water.

  4. Carefully place the smaller bowl in the larger so it does not submerge.

  5. Wait for the solidified coconut oil to liquefy.

Note: You will know when it is ready when the coconut oil turns from opaque to clear color.

  6. Remove the smaller nesting bowl.

  7. CAUTION: Confirm coconut oil is not too hot to touch.

  8. Using your hands, gently work the coconut oil into your hair from tip to root.

  9. To enhance your treatment, use in combination with our Hydrolizer Spa Cap for 20 minutes.

  10. Finish off by shampooing the coconut oil out of your hair, towel dry and feel Hydrolized!

Note: Coconut oil solidifies at around 75°F or 24°C. If your coconut oil is already in a liquid state, skip step #4.

Fun Facts and Tips

  • Look for raw organic cold pressed virgin coconut oil that has no fragrance or dyes and has not been hydrogenated, bleached, or refined in any way.

  • Always confirm coconut oil is not too hot to touch. Remember hot oil is a burn hazard.

  • Did you know that coconut oil is nature's richest source of lauric acid? The runner up is human breast milk, which is about 6 to 10%.
